Even coming from a family of Grocers, I confess my ignorance of the full use of this C-Channel bridging element. Yes, I have seen it before. Yes, I agree it bridges, aligns and buttresses adjacent cooler shelves. But I have never seen what manner of tag or price chit, if any, can take advantage of the grooves. Metal Medallion as Floor Graphic

More than a mere work-a-day floor graphic, this lively fish is a metallic medallion embedded in the terrazzo floor or an upscale supermarket. Is it a subtle selling tool? Unlikely, because though in the meat aisle it was nowhere near seafood. Is it a chain logo or talisman? No. Could it be the mark of the terrazzo tradesman? Unknown. But visual treats like this are embedded in some very famous floors and plazas to intrigue and delight the discoverer. It obviously brought me to a halt and prompted head-scratching admiration. Logo Branded Productstop

Recent Logo imprinted posts, and linked branded fixtures proved very popular. So I follow the train of thought further with logo branded product stops for Shelf Management. Shelf management systems range from open All Wire as here, to solid-solid metal tray, to clear acrylic plastic, to extruded plastic dividers. Many offer clear frontstops, though Open Wire and even T-stops are potential configurations. Here the lane frontstops are boldly branded. Since the stops are removable, it is easy to brand this system for any product. Once in the store it not only merchandises the brand, but stakes out the manufacturer’s territory on the shelf. Be sure to consider the shelf system and package colors, and where a logo imprint should be placed so as not to conflict with the package design. CLICK the thumbnail for a dead-on view.

But by color and logo it does help create a destination and “store-in-store” effect, and reinforce the bulk “Club Pack” brand and weekly special. Soviet-style Freezer Fixtures?

L-shaped, this open wire divider is self-stabilized courtesy of the weight of the product stocked. To it’s credit, open wire sheds dust and dirt and does not interfere with cooler air circulation (except when placed atop solid shelves). In this case its disadvantages include an inflexible standard width, and standard depth that expends beyond the shelf edge. Still an interesting early idea possibly from an era before modern shelf management systems that allows flexibility in lift-out, re-sequencing of facings. Seen in Brighton Beach in a store with many traditional (read “old-style”) fixtures still in active and effective use. Note the Russian-language packaging in keeping with Brooklyn’s “Little Odessa” on the sea. Given the heavy duty construction and simple practicality. maybe this is actually an original, massively-overdesigned “Soviet-style” fixture. But considering that powder coat finish is a newer fixture concept, maybe this is not Soviet after all.

Genetically Modified Food Sales

My generation learned to buy Lemon and Lime juice in perfect plastic replicas of the citrus itself. This packaging is a less than-perfect-representation of the natural fruit. Does it represent juice from Genetically Modified fruit or is it an attempt to imitate without actually copying the original packaging sell and branding? You decide. Okay, so we have all seen floor graphic footprints somewhere. But they are nevertheless of closeup interest to Fixtures Close Up. A “splat” at the entry defines the promotion. Then footprints lead hither, thither and yon through the deli, pre-packed food, and meals-to-go departments beckoning the hungry on to their satisfaction. Additional floor graphic “splats” define specific stops of interest, while signage makes a pitch to close the deal. A well thought out, complete advertising campaign vaguely reminiscent of the Burma Shave roadside jingles of the 1920’s through 1950’s. CLICK the thumbnail for other closeup views.

My single question: is this Point-of-Purchase Advertising … or given the foot-traffic mobility aspect … is it Out-of-Home Advertising? If it is in-store only would it be POP only? If it is sidewalk-based would it be re-classified Out-of-Home? Advertising academics are invited to weigh in on the fine points of advertising taxonomy.

Turkey makes a fine feast for the Holidays. This floating Turkey adds to the approaching festive season as well as my ongoing coverage of Balloons as retail signage. It also joins with the store’s other decor upgrades in reminding customers of Fall and Thanksgiving items. And who would not smile upon seeing a fat and sassy, floating gobbler, even if not front-row at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The hint of “Black Friday” sends further shivers of joy and fear … depending upon gender … up and down one’s spine.

Gravity-Feed Two Position Backbar

The design approach of yesterday’s “Gravity-Feed Backbar for Belts” motivated me to research further. Today I followup with this Universal Bar Mount which includes position settings for both downswept Gravity-Feed and fully-horizontal Standard Bar orientation. (Gravity mode shown) The switch from Gravity to Standard Mode is via the star-shaped hole in the end plate, which allows selection of either position. How it does so is patented, so ’nuff said on that topic.

Rated as a Universal Mount, it fits all standard gondola upright installing totally without tools. This model accepts plug-in hooks, but 90° Tip Saddle Mount Hooks are what is needed for product retention in Gravity Mode. CLICK the thumbnail for a slightly enlarged view.
