Though not directed at retail, these hints at how to construct a Do-It-Yourself Pegboard Shelf just might come in handy one day. Literally you can make anything into Pegboard Mount. Using standard threaded 90º L-Hooks, you could mount (and dismount) almost custom shelves and all manner of item. Best hint of all is the slight Chamfer suggested for the back. Sometimes taking a fresh look at display needs yields a new solution. A number of these Pegboard Components by Loris & Livia offer just that new perspective. Though more suited to visual merchandising and home decorating uses, one hints at the creativity that could be brought to simple Peg Hooks for mass merchandising, if only we could entice the makeover. I am not sure you could legally paint wayfinding “Index” graphics like this just anywhere in public. But imagine a promotion or series of promotions based upon Crayola Wash-off Sidewalk Crayons. No graffiti fines to pay, and the immediacy of the “pop-up” graphics might drive traffic. Who’s new store entrance you ask? Dog Bone Configuration Ring Hooks

Unusual Packaging calls for unusual merchandising fixtures. A take off on Ring Hooks merchandises these conical Popcorn packages perfectly. And since the packs are too pointy to stand, something had to be done. The staggered 3-item-deep arrangement was created by alternating Ring and Dog Bone Wireforms. Ingenious. But I wonder if closer packing of the Dog Bones could have created more of a true honeycomb, eliminating the need for the extra interstitial Ring Hooks? Product Differentiation Study

My initial interest was the fixturing and hanging of the asymmetrical lower package. But there is more going on here than meets the initial eye. Both sets are “Value Packs” with tools color coded similarly. The top offering Full Size Tools, the bottom Mini Tools with Travel Bag. The symmetrical arrangement of the Full Size Tools is designed to contrast all the more with the asymmetry of the Mini’s. But there is just no pleasing me. After all the effort that went into a great package design, precise balancing of packaging, and even constant color coding of tools, it is the price differentiation that I see most. Would you pay $1 more for smaller tools and a cloth bag? CLICK through the gallery of images to consider your purchase carefully from all angles. It would seem that even the Renaissance Faire requires regulation and control of children onsite. And given the more primitive age enacted. punishment is a bit less civilized too. The sign is unclear as to whether children will be sold into apprenticeships or or actual slavery. I suggest you don’t take any chances and not forget your kids on your way home from the Faire. Recently I waxed poetic about the packaging, metal hang tab, and on-box QR code of OtterBox. Here is an upscale Griffin package sporting solid plastic Hang Tab as differentiation. So who is playing catch-up in the iDevice case wars? One commonality to fixturinbg is this display too is lightly stocked and employs Shams and Inventory Control Clips to maintain forward facing. Those who read Fixtures Close Up often know that once I start a thread I pursue it doggedly. This impromptu Pin Holder is provided as direct comparison to the magnetic fixture reviewed in “Fitting Room Pin Holder.” What is to be learned? If you don’t provide us with the retail Amenities we need we will resort to creating what we need in store. This in all probability is a rubberized door stop pressed into pin service and thereby actually removes a danger: a lose stick pin.

Smiley Face Carded Merchandise

Turning carded merchandise into a die-cut, silhouetted emoticon is a display show stopper. One can’t even determine what the item is, but the smiley face makes you look. See other small smileys lower right. I will leave you to guess if these are gaiters, spats, leggings, knee wraps, or what. Fixtures are 90º Tip Slatwall Display Hooks.

T-shirts are not the only merchandise to offers graphics and challenging messages as a means of promoting sales. Here BBQ aprons nip at the merchandising heels of the T-shirt crowd. As an advertising copywriter I am particularly impressed with the creatively claimed benefit of “Self Adjustable” for what otherwise might be considered simple, behind-the-back apron ties. Fixtures are Straight-Cut Flatback Single Prong Display Hooks for Grid. The large surface area of the aprons minimizes any “sight leak” on the open Grid display surface.

“Mind the Gap” would make an excellent positioning statement for a well-known retail chain, particularly in London where you could see this admonish on on every subway platform up and down the length and breath of the “Underground.” CLICK the thumbnail for the overall sign message. Though I enjoyed this sign, I prefer “Don’t Panic” of “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” fame. If you see this sign popping up at your local Gap retail outlet, know they stole the idea here from FixturesCloseUp.
