“Shoe Size Matters” implies the sign. “Of course it does, says I,” only then noticing its the Half-Shoe-Size that is the promotion. My feet are so big that going from Full to Half Abominable Snowman Size makes little difference. But if you are more stylish, like my son, or just less Neanderthal and smaller boned, this may be of interest. I loved the elegant black sign and upscale holder of the promotion. But I think I would have made a bigger deal of the “1/2″ symbol. But then you know from my reporting that I’m a bit slow on the uptake. CLICK the thumbnail for the alternate view.

Agree with you that the signs are stylish but that the “1/2″ should be bigger. If they’d also eliminate the circle around the “1/2″, it would also eliminate the confusion I experienced, where it looks like the “not” symbol you often see, such as a cigarette with a red circle and slash to indicate smoking is “not allowed”, and in this case, implying that half sizes are not allowed.
Thanks for the comments. I see the “catchiness” of creating a “1/2″ from the circle-and-strike-through symbol … but as with you, I don’t think it clearly communicates and can be outright confusing.
Moving beyond this post, what would actually sell shoes (women’s in particular) is mismatched pair sizes. My wife would pay you extra to have an extra 1/2 size, or even full size larger shoe as part of a pair that fit her individually sized feet. All of us have slight bi-lateral mismatches. But in stylish high heels the fit becomes critical. As for my guy shoes, a size up or size down actually does not matter so much … unless I am hiking the Appalachian Trail or Osmeno Peak in the Philippines. Who do we see about better bi-lateral size options for Women????
