Micro-gondolas serving as freestanding displays projected a more substantial image than cheap temporary POP, and carried a consistent theme across a number of aisles. They also implied an ongoing commitment to in-store promotions. Though very nicely manufactured and finished the shelf depths are a bit too massive for my visual taste and draw ones eye away from the product, though full-width shelf-edge graphics would certainly help. A pegboard back would also improve versatility allowing alternate promotion of carded items or rear-facing hooked displays. Hopefully the units have hidden casters, or are rigidly constructed to allow easy movement. If I sound critical, not so. It is easy to add improvements once someone else has the initial good idea.
For a safe way to fixture the suggested rear-facing pegboard for this display, see the earlier post “Mini Endcap J-Hook.”

Nice display, nice assessment, POOR execution.
From a merchandising perspective, Out-posting which is an effective way to obtain additional revenue by bringing a related item into another area to make a multiple sale has the wrong item here. Pepsi spend a lot of money finding ways to bring Frito products next to soft drinks because it results in a multiple sale. Trash bags do not seem to be the right item in this case.
The biggest issue in this photo is the encroachment of the aisle. This “log jam”does not allow two shopping carts to pass each other. The liability issues is even more detrimental to the retailer. If a child should happen to run into this display, fall and cut themselves, the end results of this presentation better yield a million dollars or more as a result of covering the potential law suit.
