Country-of-Origin Add-on

Small sign grips helped tell the country-of-origin for many items throughout this well-stocked produce department. The extra “eyebrow” sign was a classy touch and allowed more flexible tagging of merchandise. Even as a male shopper there are some items I prefer from one locale rather than another. This system allowed me to be as picky as I chose with my fruits and vegetables. I liked the system even though extra work for the staff … and as long as the signs remained as neat and orderly as shown.

  1. This is an excellent addition to produce displays. The rise in local foods and the desire to know the origin of products make a big difference to consumers these days, but so few of retailers are taking advantage of this trend. I can also see them used for Organic or Organic transition signs for retailers that try to source OG produce when it is available.

    • Thanks for the comment Robert. I am glad to see someone else closer to the market agrees the “eyebrow” sign has potential. With organics and the many exotic fruits and vegetables from overseas, being a Green Grocer has become a very specialized profession. As a customer, I expect advice on everything from origin to nutrition to subtle nuances of flavor to serving suggestions. I am glad I have a simpler job. For when I first saw white asparagus I thought it was either an Albino variety or grown in dark underground mushroom caves.
